Up above my homey now lives. Joseph Nelson had to of been one of the coolest dudes I knew. He was one of those friends that always kept a smile on his face, respected everyone around him, and was a man about everything he did. I respected Joe for that. I hadn’t known Joe for that long before he was taken away from us on 12/29/02. I went to a pre college summer program out
Baltimore (
Morgan State) right after I graduated from high school. Before I went I told my best friend Kyle "I wasn’t too sure about going out to BMORE seeing as how I’m from PG and they can’t stand us". Kyle said “You’ll be fine a rack of people are going to be out there, from our area.” Sure enough it was. That’s how I met Joe. He was in one of my classes and we starting talking one day come to find out he knew both my cousin and Kyle. He grew up in my cousin’s neighborhood and he played football with Kyle. After that we hung together all the time. Our typical day went like this go to class, get at girls, go to lunch get at girls, go back to class, get at girls, go to dinner, get at girls, go talk to the track and football coaches, and then try to sneak in "Blount" (girls dormitory) before curfew. We had a good time. Pre college was one of the best experiences. I thought Morgan was going to turn out fine for me but I couldn’t get housing and I felt like I was only going to Morgan because no other school wanted me due to my bad performance in high school. Since I always wanted to go to
Temple Univ. (Philly), I decided to start at Community College and shack up with my cousin who already lived out there. I was out there for sometime and I stayed in touch with Joe and all my other homies from Morgan. Then I came home for winter break. Before I could even get a chance to meet up with Jody Joe I received a phone call from Kyle. “Ay man, Joe died last night” Kyle said. I was shocked and didn’t even know how to react. Kyle told me that a drunk driver hit him 3 in the morning while he was taking his girlfriend home. I never lost anybody close to me like that. Since that incident I have learned a lot about life. People say it all the time; "Live everyday like it is you last." Most importantly SLOW DOWN. Life is quick enough as it is, no need to rush it. Love and Live Life.
